Hello!!

Have been searching the web just to hear someone approaching this obvious line of thinking when it comes to events in general. I have a small list of artists doing gigs and have managed to get an iCal feed that publishes to a web server and then is read by a wordpress site which is very cool but the next step is to be able to re publish this iCal feed as RSS so that it can be displayed in other places without re-entering the information. I think this is an excellent application for RSS and would be happy to learn what I can to make things easier for my artists. Take care now and enjoy the jazz!!
you might also be interested in spraci.com

it's a long-running nightlife guide listing events such as festivals, gigs, club nights, parties, etc for many cities worldwide.

It's event listings have hCalandar markup and there are also feeds in formats such as RSS+Event and iCal.

There is also an API (see http://www.spraci.com/api/ for more info)

Event promoters can add their own events via the forms on the site or by submitting their data feed. (hCalendar/RSS+Event/iCal)

- still working on direct publishing from iCal clients - need to work out how users can specify the city for each event in iCal clients - any ideas?

This sounds like a great idea, Nate. I work for Eventful, and we're seeing a real need for tools a musician (or a promoter) can use to get the word out about shows. We've concentrated on the other end of it -- helping people discover the events once they're publicized -- so we're definitely interested in getting more events listed in more places.

Speaking of which, please take a look at the Eventful (EVDB) API and see if there are any tools you can use. I'm specifically thinking of our RSS/iCalendar/Atom publishing tools and automated geocoding, which might relieve you of the need to translate formats yourself. We're also perfecting our hCal/iCal importer, which might help you on that end, too. Of course, it goes without saying that you're welcome to use Eventful to store all your GigBlast events, too. There's plenty for you to do even with those bits taken care of. :)

Feel free to contact me (chris at the aforementioned eventful dot com) if our API sounds interesting, or even to just kick ideas around. We've heard a strong call for this kind of thing so you're definitely not alone.

[...] As mentioned in my last post building a live music calendar, I’m disappointed that the websites that list jazz events in Boston don’t offer the data as an RSS or iCal feed. One example of this is the WGBH Jazz Calendar, which has probably the most comprehensive listing of jazz events in the Boston area. [...]
